To the Heroes in Our Lives

I have to admit that I am a little late with this entry due to being very tired! It's hard to function when you are woken up five or more times a night by the Cheeky Boy and his restlessness & seizures. I kind of loose count after five as I'm so tired it all becomes a bit of a blur...add to that I have been busy trying to get more of the pieces I have made for customers onto my RozArt website at night when the kids are asleep. Unfortunately for the Cheeky Boy, it would appear that his new medication is not working effectively and a trip to Sydney will happen soon to get more tests done and hopefully a new regime that will reduce his seizures...fingers crossed.

This week has been a very special week here in  Australia with ANZAC day on Thursday. My Husband and Cheeky Daughter went to the dawn service at the Australian War Memorial. The Cheeky Boy is not yet able to understand what the day is about so we are hoping to at least make it to the parade next year.

As part of my Dog Tag series, I make pieces that celebrate and honour those who are the heroes in our lives including those who serve our Country in the Military, also as Police, Firies, Ambos, Nurses and many more... Here's just one piece I have made in the Dog Tags for the Services on my website for our service men and women:

Finally as promised, here are the photos of the Dinosaur cakes I made for the National Dinosaur Museum for their 20th Birthday celebrations last week:

The cakes went down a treat! some kids came back for thirds!
Definitely a sign that they tasted good too :-)

I best be off, still so much to do! I hope you all have a good week ahead :-)

New Things to Do

Today is going to be a rather busy day. Over the past week I have made chocolates of various flavours and then tried them out on different people and they have been given the thumbs up :-) I came up with the idea that I could make something that people could buy from me and enjoy straight away when I am at different markets and shows. The money I then make from these chocolates can then also help raise funds for my Cheeky Boys expenses.

Take a look at some of the Dinosaur chocolates I made the other day:

Anyone for a chocolate or two?!?

I made these ones in Milk and Dark chocolate with some having coconut and others with peanuts. I am going to try making some with peppermint and orange flavours. By tonight I may also have a few other flavours :-) I will see what inspires me when I go shopping. I have moulds that are fairies, robots, teddy bears, lions and fancy round ones. I will be also making these chocs as lolly pops so kids can enjoy them in a fun way :-)

This week has also has my RozArt stall going to the Rose Cottage Markets on Saturday at Rose Cottage Canberra. This is a market that runs the third Saturday of every month so I thought I shall give it go. I am particularly keen on finding out how my chocolates will go.

As for the Cheeky Boy, he has started doing 3 months of swimming lessons with a grant from the Friends of Brain Injured Children. This is great as he has previously done some group lessons and he learnt so much but with our finances being strapped we haven't been able to get him involved again. We stopped last year when the weather became cold as he was prone to chest infections.

He is doing these at Kings Swim School and the staff have been very accommodating to his needs and have provided him with great instructors who can take him one-on-one due to his epilepsy. He loves water and loves to splash in it! The toilet bowl isn't safe if an unsuspecting visitor leaves our toilet door open, the Cheeky Boy seems to always find his way to the splash zone!!

To finish off my night tonight, I will also be making two dinosaur cakes for the National Dinosaur Museum's 20th Birthday celebrations this weekend. I will give you a look at the end results next week :-)

I hope everyone has a nice weekend and a fine week ahead :-)

A Chance to Relax

Before I start this Blog entry... my question to all of you... did any of you do a 'cleanse' of your phones? I would be interested to know if anyone was game enough to 'let go' of some of the junk on their phones or at least had a look and perhaps be a little surprised as to how much they really don't need or use on their phones...

As for my new mobile, I'm still trying to figure it out, I have been sent a picture that I need to transfer to my computer but as yet haven't figured out how to do it... Otherwise I'm getting the hang of its quirks! I am having fun with connecting the people contacting me with their texts. At least I have not yet been stumped by one and had to ask who it is :-) I'm sure the moment shall come.

Here's a picture that shows you all where I have been for a couple of days this week...

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to go on a Carers Retreat for few days on the coast. I was able to have my first two nights of uninterrupted sleep in three years which of course was nice :-) I had the privilege of spending time with a group of other people who dedicate their lives to the care of their loved ones and we all had a chance to share our stories, have a laugh or two and perhaps eat a little too much food!

The worst part of it all was the fact that I had relaxed just enough to let my cold set in that has been simmering for the past couple of weeks :-( So we had one full day at the coast doing fun activities, I would have loved to have one more day there to fully unwind and relax and perhaps it would have given me a chance to get over this cold just a little more before coming home to get back into the routine of being waken many times during the night be my Cheeky Boy. Anyhow, such is life!

Here's another picture I took and I thought you may all like to have a look at, it's of a kangaroo who had definitely got the concept of relaxing fully figured out :-)

It's a hard life for some by the beach!

My chance to go to this beautiful location was due to the wonderful staff of Carers ACT and their generous benefactors.

I best be off now I have a Cheeky Boy looking for his breakfast. Enjoy the week ahead :-)

Where's My Phone?

I am a little bit late with this post but I have a good excuse really :-) I had early intervention with my Cheeky Boy in the morning then I went out to do a twilight fair last night. The fair was fun for the kids and I didn't sell anything upfront but a few people took business cards and I can only hope that they may purchase something at some point in the future. I at least had the opportunity to spread the word about children like my Cheeky Boy and the great work the Friends of Brain Injured Children (FBIC) do to help support these kids :-)

This morning I am off to do a Community Fun Day event so hopefully the weather will hold and the day will be productive for all.

So now you may be thinking, what's the go with the Title of this Blog entry??? well the story begins on a Wednesday morning with my usual around 6am starts with the Cheeky Boy and in the process I take my mobile phone off the bed, after this point I have not seen my phone since...

I give the Cheeky Boy each morning my phone to play with whilst he has his 'nodding' seizures when he has woken up so that I can try and keep him in one place until they cease and then I take him into the lounge room for his morning fun before breakfast. On this particular morning all was fine until I went to find my phone later and it's nowhere to be seen... the Cheeky Boy does have a habit of playing with it and then putting it down somewhere 'safe' but this morning I forgot to take my phone off silent as I was wanting to get a few more things in the garbage bin before the garbage man arrived.

Anyhow, after an extensive search using all members of the house...no mobile phone to be found! On one hand it could have been the Cheeky Boy who has put it somewhere and on the other, perhaps I anciently got it caught up in the bin things??? and it's now a part of nature... three years without a good nights sleep can do funny things to your concentration...

I believe many of you would be almost crying at the thought of losing your mobile phone, am I right? be honest now... I just think I now have a good excuse to try a new phone and make a new contacts list with people on it that really wish to give me a buzz. I think our mobile phones are like our purses and wallets... after a while we collect so much junk in them we don't really know what's in them anymore! Just last night I was talking to a young gentleman whose wallet was so full of old receipts that it wasn't closing properly anymore. I said to him kindly, "perhaps you may need to give your wallet a bit of a clean" and he said "it's my mums fault as she taught me to keep my receipts..."

Well I better be going, I have a Fun Day to get to :-) Perhaps you all may have a little look at your purses, wallets and mobile phones over the week and see what really can be thrown in the bin :-)
