Fun at the Show

As I have been pulling all nighters for the last week to get a new range of RozArt tags designed for the Royal Canberra Show, I have to apologise for being a day late with my post once again. I was truly too exhausted to keep my eyes open to do my blog.

Anyhow we are now into day two of the Canberra Show and the weather gods are playing tricks on us! Cold and a fine rain on and off, just to give us all a bit of a chill. Then as soon as the sun comes out...you have to strip layers as it gets quite warm. Then there has been the gusts of wind... here's a photo of my stall with my lovely assistant doing a Mary Poppins impression trying to to hold the umbrella stable until the marquee was set up!

So far we have met some lovely people and some orders have been made. An excited teenager won the first Dog Tag of her choice yesterday... so nice to see it go to such a deserving girl.

Today is suppose to be the busiest day of the show so lets hope the weather brings out some nice sunshine and a little warmth...so far its been a little cool and rainy...

The Cheeky Boy came to the show for a while yesterday with his sister and they both had a great time. This has been the first time the Cheeky Boy has been to such a big event and he coped with it well, besides being a little tired. He was even brave enough to touch a bull which was great to see.
He is learning to touch more things as he is a bit sensitive with feeling things so the fact he touched the bull for a brief moment was great! Perhaps when he comes today he will pat it for longer... the wonderful farmers exhibiting at the show are going to bring a calf out today for him to see.

So here's to a fun day and the hope that you all have a fun week :-)

Happy are those...

I must start with saying sorry to those who may have been waiting for my post yesterday. I have been busy with a Cheeky Boy who now has a cold and feeling a little under the weather...we all know what that's like. At least it has not involved any large seizures (as yet). When he gets sick he is unpredictable as to when a large seizure may occur...when you think he will be fine, a hospital trip by ambulance occurs...then other times when you think, "it's only a matter of time" he doesn't have one at all. It makes my job just that little bit harder...keeps me on my toes :-)

Life isn't about things being predictable, life would be a tad boring if it was!

Here's a picture I was sent during the week that I believe sums up how I like to look at life

So a little overview of the week that has been... being a stay at home mum, I sometimes forget that people can be arrogant, rude and self centred. I experienced this with a twitter person who thought my message of trying to raise money for the Friends of Brain Injured Children at the Royal Canberra Show was SPAM to him and he also responded to my thoughts by calling me a in inappropriate word by coding it...coward also can be added to his description. I was a tad worked up by his rudeness but as the week has progressed I have just reminded myself that the world is made up of all sorts of people and some are not worth wasting my energy on and ultimately it is their issue and not mine.

On a good note, my twitter message has been well received by others and they have been so kind as to retweet it to their followers. These are the people who restore my faith in the positive and supportive nature of the human race.

So for those of you who would like a look at my work bench at the moment as I prepare for the Royal Canberra Show which starts this coming Friday (22 Feb) here's a picture for you...

So much work yet to do!

Sleep

How's your week been? Mine, very exciting for one Cheeky Girl who started Big School and tiring for me as I try to get into the 9am to 3pm school routine with all the things starting for the Cheeky Boy also. Of course trying to make more Dog Tags for the up and coming Royal Canberra Show in the early hours of the morning is nice and peaceful but doesn't help your body clock. So the best I can do, if circumstances permit, is sneak in the 15 to 20 minute nap after lunch when my Cheeky Boy has his rest. He doesn't tend to sleep for very long but the days when he puts on 40 minutes to a hour and I happen to get that much deserved rest... it's lovely.

I have always believed in the greatness of an early afternoon nap, it gives you a bit more pep for the afternoon. Those countries who have it as part of their regular daily routine are the smartest countries by far!

When you have a four our five year old child, there is a preconceived idea that they don't need a afternoon nap... my Cheeky Girl still has naps, for her mummy, daddy is the 'softer' one and she won't sleep for him. I think what it has come down to is this: "if mummy needs a sleep and seeing mummy is older than you, it means you need one. Until you are as old as me, you can then decide if you don't need a sleep". On occasions there has been the battle of the wills but this mum is more stubborn than the Cheeky Girl and I will always be older :-)

As for the Cheeky Boy, he needs more sleep than other 3 year olds. His medication and the fact that his brain is having many small seizures during his awake time, which we can't see externally, he has a minimum of two naps a day. Sometimes he may need up to six naps in a day. Add to that his seizures that interrupt his sleep at night, his sleep is not too good. When he does sleep through the night, I worry as this means a large seizure may be on its way. How do I know this, as wonderful as it is for one to get a good nights sleep, his 'normal' routine involves him waking a minimum of two times in a night, so when this routine is changed I unfortunately know that there is a chance something not so good is coming his way.

Last night was one of those nights for the Cheeky Boy, he had a big sleep... today he hasn't been his 'normal' cheeky self, he's been off his food and this afternoon he had a not so good seizure that was not too long but was long enough to know that I'm going to need to keep a close eye on him over the next few days.

So here's a picture that comes in handy for many of us at times :-)

On the good news front, my business RozArt is going to participate in the RSPCA Million Paws Walk. I will have a stall at the walk here in Canberra and perhaps with a little help from my Sydney friends, I will be able to have a stall in Sydney as they walks will running on the same day and as industrious as I am, I just can't be in two places at the same time :-)

For all of you who have four legged canine companions the RSPCA Million Paws Walk is a great day to get involved in.

They are of course run all over this great country :-)

Here's to a Fabulous February

Well here comes February! I've suffered from a lack of sleep last night with the Cheeky Boy waking up with his 'nodding' seizures about five times last night and a desire to have a few bottles of water. He is still on extra drugs to reduce his seizures but the dose is being reduced gradually and the seizures are increasing in frequency. At least (touch wood) he hasn't had one of his large seizures in over a month now!

Even with a lack of sleep, it hasn't slowed down his desire to get up to mischief! As I was saying last week, when they have gone quiet, it's time to worry... well I have had one of those moments this morning... so I head off for a search and what do I find, a Cheeky Boy pulling all the wipes out of the large wipes container, the pile of wipes was almost as tall as him as he sat there on the floor looking at me with the "this happens everyday" look. Cheeky...

So here's to a fabulous February! As I mentioned last blog, there is school starting for my Cheeky Girl with her first day of 'big school' starting on Monday. She can't wait to start, I can't wait for her start either...she is so ready to get into socialising with her friends from preschool!

As for the Cheeky Boy, we have his special needs playgroup for 3 year olds twice a week, Gymbaroo every week of course and speech therapy classes for six weeks.

Then for my RozArt side of things...I'm very excited to say I shall have a stand at the ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show which will be held from the 22 to 24 February. I have never done anything like this before but I truly hope it goes well. These are the things I am doing in my stand:
  • I shall be showing my range of Dog tags for People and Pets and taking orders.
  • I will also be offering FREE jewellery cleaning for anyone who cares to have their jewellery they are wearing looking nice and shiny.
  • I am also running a competition everyday where someone will win one of my RozArt Dog Tags valued at $29.95 and to win one simply has to fill in a entry form when they come to visit my stand at the show.
My RozArt stand will be located right near the Baby Animal Pavilion which is great!

I'm of course a little nervous about how it will go at the Show and how the general public will receive my Dog tags but I am hoping to at least raise awareness of the children like my son and the help the Friends of Brain Injured Children (FBIC) ACT Inc. gives to such beautiful children and their families. I am hoping to achieve some sales, as with every tag I make a portion of the money goes directly to the Friends of Brain Injured Children ACT Inc. There is also the great thing of the more sales I make the more money that goes to the FBIC.

I have found from two other small events I have attended (only about four hours in duration each) that people are moved by My Sons Story and if they don't buy one of my Dog tags they will donate directly to the FBIC which is wonderful.

So if you have any other suggestions to things I can provide to the people attending the Royal Canberra Show, please feel free to let me know.

And of course if you happen to come to the show, please come and say Hi!

I have also got to try and figure out how many business cards to make, what signage I will need, more Dog tags to design and make etc... so still much to do in the middle of the night before the Show begins! I think I am almost tired thinking about it! but excited just the same :-)

This dog is showing how I feel leading up to the ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show :-)
