Sleep

How's your week been? Mine, very exciting for one Cheeky Girl who started Big School and tiring for me as I try to get into the 9am to 3pm school routine with all the things starting for the Cheeky Boy also. Of course trying to make more Dog Tags for the up and coming Royal Canberra Show in the early hours of the morning is nice and peaceful but doesn't help your body clock. So the best I can do, if circumstances permit, is sneak in the 15 to 20 minute nap after lunch when my Cheeky Boy has his rest. He doesn't tend to sleep for very long but the days when he puts on 40 minutes to a hour and I happen to get that much deserved rest... it's lovely.

I have always believed in the greatness of an early afternoon nap, it gives you a bit more pep for the afternoon. Those countries who have it as part of their regular daily routine are the smartest countries by far!

When you have a four our five year old child, there is a preconceived idea that they don't need a afternoon nap... my Cheeky Girl still has naps, for her mummy, daddy is the 'softer' one and she won't sleep for him. I think what it has come down to is this: "if mummy needs a sleep and seeing mummy is older than you, it means you need one. Until you are as old as me, you can then decide if you don't need a sleep". On occasions there has been the battle of the wills but this mum is more stubborn than the Cheeky Girl and I will always be older :-)

As for the Cheeky Boy, he needs more sleep than other 3 year olds. His medication and the fact that his brain is having many small seizures during his awake time, which we can't see externally, he has a minimum of two naps a day. Sometimes he may need up to six naps in a day. Add to that his seizures that interrupt his sleep at night, his sleep is not too good. When he does sleep through the night, I worry as this means a large seizure may be on its way. How do I know this, as wonderful as it is for one to get a good nights sleep, his 'normal' routine involves him waking a minimum of two times in a night, so when this routine is changed I unfortunately know that there is a chance something not so good is coming his way.

Last night was one of those nights for the Cheeky Boy, he had a big sleep... today he hasn't been his 'normal' cheeky self, he's been off his food and this afternoon he had a not so good seizure that was not too long but was long enough to know that I'm going to need to keep a close eye on him over the next few days.

So here's a picture that comes in handy for many of us at times :-)

On the good news front, my business RozArt is going to participate in the RSPCA Million Paws Walk. I will have a stall at the walk here in Canberra and perhaps with a little help from my Sydney friends, I will be able to have a stall in Sydney as they walks will running on the same day and as industrious as I am, I just can't be in two places at the same time :-)

For all of you who have four legged canine companions the RSPCA Million Paws Walk is a great day to get involved in.

They are of course run all over this great country :-)
